Veneers
If creating your perfect smile only requires minor adjustments to the shape, size or color of your teeth, our dentists, Drs. Noles, Estes, and Steinhauer may recommend veneers. At Noles Family Dental in Greensburg, Indiana, we can explore whether veneers are right for you and whether they will help you achieve your smile goals.
What Are Veneers?
Veneers are a very thin layer of porcelain attached to the front of the tooth to change its appearance. Think of it like a costume for your teeth.
Since veneers are only designed to change the appearance of the tooth, they can only be used to make minor cosmetic adjustments to your smile. Veneers are commonly used to correct the following problems:
- Crooked or uneven teeth – veneers don’t physically straighten your teeth, but they do create the impression that your teeth are straighter and more even
- Fill in gaps between teeth
- Hide visible cracks and chips
- Cover discolored or stained teeth
At your consultation for veneers, our dentists will listen to your smile goals and determine if veneers are the right cosmetic dental treatment for you.
Restorative Dental Treatment May Be Needed Before Veneer Placement
A strong, healthy tooth is needed to provide a foundation for the veneers. Before we start the veneer process, our dentists, Drs. Noles, Estes, and Steinhauer will conduct a thorough dental health examination to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy. If there are any signs of infection, cavities or decay, certain restorative dental procedures may be added to your treatment plan.
Once your restorative dental treatment is complete, you can then start the veneer process.
The Veneer Process at Noles Family Dental
Getting your veneers at Noles Family Dental is a quick and easy process. In fact, as soon as our dentists have verified that your teeth and gums are healthy enough for veneers, we can get started.
First, our dentists will remove a very thin layer of enamel from the tooth or teeth that will be getting veneers. This creates a smoother surface that makes it easier to secure the veneer. Removing a thin layer of enamel also helps the veneer appear even with surrounding teeth. If the enamel wasn’t removed, the veneer might not blend in with your natural teeth.
After the enamel is removed, our dental team will take impressions. Impressions are needed so the dental lab can create a custom-made veneer that is the right shape, size and color. Our dental team will help you with the veneer creation process so your final dental restoration looks just like your natural teeth.
It will take a few weeks for the dental lab to create the veneer. Once the veneer is created and it arrives at our dental office in Greensburg, our dental staff will call you to make your final appointment.
At the final appointment, our dentists will verify that the veneer fits your tooth properly. If no adjustments need to be made, our dentist will use a dental cement to bond the veneer to the tooth. This secures it in place and prevents it from falling out.
With Proper Care Veneers Can Last a Long Time
Even though veneers are not meant to last forever, they can last a long time. With proper care and maintenance, veneers can last ten years or longer before needing to be replaced.
After our dentists have placed your veneers on your teeth, we will educate you on how best to care for your smile. Some suggestions our dental staff may make include regularly scheduling dental exams and professional cleanings, avoiding food and drinks that could stain your teeth and not grinding or clenching your teeth.
Let us help you create the smile that you have always wanted. Our dentists will work with you to create a treatment plan that changes your smile and improves your oral health. Call Noles Family Dental to schedule a cosmetic dental consultation to learn how veneers and other procedures could help you achieve your smile goals.
